My
First Marathon
By
Larry L. Langley,
Raised and shining in the sun
It's
hammer poised to strike.
The
hammer falls, I start to run
The
marathon has just begun.
The
marathon has just begun
I
run and run and run and run.
So
far it really seems like fun!
Twenty
miles more in the morning sun.
Twenty
miles more in the morning sun
Six
miles done and I've just begun...
For
how many others, is this their first one?
I'll
run and run and run and run
I'll
run and run and run and run
Thirteen
miles...in the morning sun
And
now I'm only half-way done.
Can
I finish what I've begun?
Can
I finish what I've begun?
Am
I really meant to run
And
run and run and run and run ?
It's
been three hours...only three-forths done.
It's
been three hours...only three-fourths done.
I've
got to ignore it! I've got to run...
I
can't let it stop me! I've got to run...
Only
six more miles, and then I'm done...
Only
six more miles, and then I'm done...
It's
trying to stop me! I've got to run...
The
finish, where is it? I can't keep on...
Just
a few more steps...I've got to hang on
Just
a few more steps...I've got to hang on
Just
a few more seconds...I've got to hang on
Seventy-seventh
out of one hundred and one!
My
God, I did it! I won! I won!
